WOOL AND COTTON

Shop our wool and cotton rugs — handwoven in 80% pure wool and 20% cotton, available in a range of sizes, crafted for living rooms, hallways, dining rooms and beyond.

Some rugs decorate a room. A handwoven wool rug defines it.

Our wool and cotton rugs are handcrafted from 80% pure wool and 20% cotton — a combination chosen deliberately. Wool brings the warmth, the depth, and the tactile richness. Cotton brings the structure, the crispness at the border, and the durability that holds everything together. The result is a flatweave rug that feels as considered as the room it lives in.

From the graphic tension of the charcoal and ivory palette to the subtle tonal variation that only hand-weaving creates — this is a collection for people who know the difference.

Welcome to the Haniesta Wool & Cotton edit.

WHY WOOL AND COTTON RUGS? Because the details you can't see are just as important as the ones you can.

A Texture You Can Feel Across the Room There is something unmistakable about a wool rug. The bobble weave, the slight irregularity between each loop, the way the pile catches light differently depending on the angle — none of that happens by accident, and none of it can be replicated by a machine. Our wool and cotton rugs are handwoven, which means every piece carries the quiet evidence of the hands that made it. That is not a flaw. That is the point.

80% Wool. 20% Cotton. The Ratio Matters. Wool is one of the most naturally resilient fibres on earth — it resists compression, repels surface dirt, and holds colour with remarkable longevity. The 20% cotton foundation gives the rug its dimensional stability, preventing stretch and keeping the flatweave tight and even underfoot. This is not a blend made to cut costs. It is a blend made to perform beautifully, for years.

Handwoven. Not Machine-Made. Never Machine-Made. Every rug in this collection is handwoven by skilled artisans. The slight tonal shifts across the surface, the organic variation in the weave density, the texture that looks almost three-dimensional — these are the hallmarks of genuine hand craftsmanship. If it looks too perfect, it isn't one of ours.

A Neutral That Anchors Any Interior Charcoal, ivory, and natural off-white. These are not safe colours — they are considered ones. Our wool and cotton rugs sit with equal confidence against warm oak flooring, cool polished concrete, painted floorboards, and stone tiles. They complement a velvet sofa. They ground a linen room. They work because they were designed to.

Built for Real Homes Wool is naturally hardwearing. The flatweave construction means there is no pile to crush, no loops to snag, and no deep fibres to trap debris. These rugs are made for living rooms that are actually lived in, hallways that see real foot traffic, and dining rooms where life genuinely happens.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT WOOL RUG FOR YOUR HOME

Size — Go Larger Than You Think The most common mistake with any area rug is going too small. For a wool rug in the living room, choose a size where the front legs of your sofa and chairs rest comfortably on the surface. This anchors the furniture grouping and makes the space feel intentional. For larger, open-plan rooms, our biggest sizes define zones with quiet authority — no walls required.

Room by Room A large rectangle works beautifully in a living room or dining room, grounding the furniture and adding warmth underfoot. A smaller piece brings texture and softness to a bedroom, particularly at the foot of the bed or beside it. In a hallway, the flatweave construction is ideal — low-profile, hardwearing, and easy to live with daily.

Pattern — Graphic Simplicity, Not Compromise The charcoal and ivory palette of this collection is intentionally restrained. The visual interest comes from the texture — the bobble weave, the slight variation in the hand-spinning — rather than from pattern for its own sake. These rugs work in contemporary, Scandi, mid-century, and transitional interiors with equal ease.

CARING FOR YOUR WOOL & COTTON RUG

These Rugs Are Not Machine Washable Wool and cotton flatweaves require gentle, considered care. Do not machine wash, do not tumble dry, and do not steam clean. The fibres and construction are not designed for machine cycles, and doing so will cause irreversible damage.

Vacuuming Vacuum your wool rug regularly on a low-suction setting without a beater bar. A gentle pass once or twice a week removes surface dust and keeps the weave looking fresh. Avoid aggressive vacuuming directly on the border edges.

Spot Cleaning Spills Act quickly. Blot — never rub — any spill with a clean, dry cloth. Work from the outside of the spill inward to prevent spreading. For stubborn marks, use a small amount of cold water and a mild, wool-safe detergent, blotting carefully. Allow to dry fully and naturally, away from direct heat.

Keep It Dry Wool does not respond well to prolonged moisture. Avoid placing these rugs in high-humidity rooms or areas prone to repeated wet spills. If the rug becomes saturated, lay it flat in a well-ventilated space and allow it to air dry completely before use.

Rotate Regularly Rotate your rug every three to four months, particularly in high-traffic areas, to ensure even wear across the surface. This single habit significantly extends the life and appearance of the rug.

Use a Rug Pad A quality non-slip rug pad underneath prevents movement, protects your floor, and improves airflow beneath the rug — allowing the natural wool fibres to breathe and stay fresh between cleans.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are your wool and cotton rugs handmade? Yes. Every rug in this collection is handwoven by skilled artisans from 80% pure wool and 20% cotton. The natural variation you see across the surface is a direct result of the hand-weaving process — and a mark of authenticity.

Are these rugs machine washable? No. Our wool and cotton rugs are not machine washable. Please follow our care guidance — spot clean with cold water and a wool-safe detergent, blot spills immediately, and allow to dry naturally. Machine washing will cause permanent damage to the fibres and construction.

Are wool rugs good for living rooms? Exceptionally so. Wool is naturally resilient, warm underfoot, and visually rich in a way that synthetic fibres cannot replicate. The flatweave construction makes these rugs practical for everyday use without sacrificing any of that quality.

Are wool rugs suitable for high-traffic areas? Yes. Wool is one of the strongest natural fibres available. The flatweave construction — with no raised pile to crush or snag — makes these rugs particularly well-suited to hallways, entryways, and living rooms that see regular use.

Do wool rugs shed? Some light natural fibre shedding can occur in the first few weeks, particularly with new wool rugs. This is entirely normal and settles quickly with regular, gentle vacuuming.

What sizes are available? Our wool and cotton rugs are available in a range of sizes from compact to large. For a size not listed, visit our bespoke rug service to request a custom piece.

Are these rugs eco-friendly? Wool is a naturally renewable, biodegradable fibre. Our rugs are made without synthetic materials and are built to last — the most sustainable rug is one you keep for decades.

Can I use a wool rug in a bedroom? Absolutely. A wool rug brings warmth and texture to a bedroom that few other materials can match. Position at the foot of the bed or running alongside it for maximum impact.

Can I get a custom size? Yes — visit our bespoke rug page to discuss a custom size or specification.

How do I know these rugs are genuinely handmade and not machine-made? Look closely at the surface. You will see slight variation in the weave tension, natural irregularity between individual loops, and tonal shifts across the pile — none of which occur in machine production. These imperfections are intentional. They are the signature of hand craftsmanship, and they are what make each rug quietly unique.
